Bespoke Japanese-Inspired Restaurant Murals in Preston
A complete hand-painted mural scheme created by a restaurant mural artist in Preston across 10 walls, delivered in just three days after an unexpected commission developed alongside a neighbouring project.
From One Project to Ten Walls
We were originally working in Preston on a large-scale mural project for Blind Tiger Pubs, painting at the railway station next door to the restaurant.
While we were on site, the restaurant approached us about creating artwork for their interior.
What started as a single commission quickly developed into something much bigger.
After discussing the space and what the restaurant wanted to achieve, we extended our stay in Preston and took on the complete mural scheme — ultimately creating artwork across 10 walls throughout the restaurant.
The challenge was that there wasn’t time for the usual extended design and production process. We developed much of the artwork directly around the space, sourced the materials and supplies locally, prepared the walls and worked through the nights to complete the project.
As a restaurant mural artist in Preston, this was a particularly fast-paced project, requiring us to adapt the artwork and installation process around the space while maintaining the quality of the finished murals.
And we had just come off another enormous mural, including a 22-metre-high wall, so this was a serious push.
Designing the Restaurant Around Its Identity
The brief developed into a bold Japanese-inspired visual environment combining geisha imagery, koi, dragons, waves, cherry blossom and Japanese-inspired graphic elements.
Rather than treating each wall as an isolated mural, the artwork was designed to flow through the restaurant, connecting the individual compositions through recurring colours, motifs and movement.
Deep charcoal backgrounds allowed the vivid turquoise, coral, red, orange and gold elements to stand out, while the flowing water and wave forms helped tie the different sections together.
The result was a complete visual identity for the interior rather than simply a collection of feature walls.
Three Nights. Ten Walls. One Complete Transformation.
This project was completed under particularly demanding conditions.
The building had no heating, and the Preston winter weather made the overnight working conditions genuinely challenging. The restaurant looked after us incredibly well with food throughout the project, while we worked around their requirements to get the job finished.
With the artwork developing on site, we had to manage several elements simultaneously:
- Developing and adapting the designs
- Preparing the walls
- Sourcing paints and materials
- Scaling artwork to the available spaces
- Working around windows, pillars and architectural features
- Maintaining consistency across the full scheme
- Working through the night to minimise disruption
- Completing the entire installation within three days
It was a concentrated burst of design, preparation and hand-painted application.
A Complete Japanese-Inspired Interior
The finished restaurant brings together a series of individual artworks — from large koi and flowing waves to stylised Japanese figures, dragons and atmospheric city imagery.
Each piece was painted directly onto the walls and adapted to the architecture of the restaurant, allowing the artwork to become part of the space itself.
