Urban Gypset created a bespoke spray-painted mural scheme for Claremont Social Tap House in Shrewsbury, commissioned by Amber Taverns through Star Pubs & Bars.
The project brought together a collection of botanical, gothic and character-led artwork across the interior, creating distinctive visual features throughout the venue while working with its existing materials, architecture and atmosphere.
Rather than treating the murals as isolated pieces, the artwork was developed as a connected scheme, with designs flowing around stairways, doorways, exposed brick and other architectural features.
Bespoke Spray-Painted Murals Designed Around the Space
One of the strengths of spray-painted mural artwork is the ability to work directly into the architecture of a space.
At Claremont Social Tap House, designs were created across stairwells, feature walls and awkward spaces, allowing the artwork to follow the building rather than being restricted to conventional rectangular compositions.
The result is a collection of individual artworks that work together as a complete interior mural scheme.
While we were on site, the restaurant approached us about creating artwork for their interior.
What started as a single commission quickly developed into something much bigger.
Creating a Connected Mural Scheme
The brief was to create artwork that felt like it belonged naturally within the character of Claremont Social Tap House, while giving the different areas of the venue their own visual identity.
Rather than approaching each wall as a separate commission, the artwork was developed as a connected collection of images and motifs. Butterflies, botanical forms, skulls, moths and character artwork appear throughout the space, creating continuity as customers move through the pub.
The designs were also adapted to the architecture itself, allowing the artwork to flow around stairways, doorways, brickwork and other existing features. This helped the murals feel integrated into the interior rather than simply applied to available wall space.
The result is a varied but cohesive mural scheme, with each area offering something different while contributing to the overall atmosphere of the venue.
Spray-Painted Artwork Across the Venue
The murals were created directly onto the existing surfaces using spray paint, allowing the artwork to be built up with layers of colour, shading and fine detail.
The stairwell became one of the main focal points, with a series of colourful butterflies appearing to move along the wall and increase in scale as they descend. Elsewhere, more detailed pieces introduce darker botanical and gothic elements, including skulls, moths and character-led artwork.
Working in this way allowed us to create very different visual moments throughout the venue while maintaining a consistent artistic style. The spray-painted finish also gives the artwork a natural sense of depth and movement, with soft shadows, layered colour and atmospheric detail that would be difficult to achieve with conventional painted signage or printed graphics.
Artwork That Becomes Part of the Interior
The finished murals were designed to work alongside the existing character of Claremont Social Tap House, bringing together the artwork, architecture, lighting and interior finishes to create a distinctive atmosphere.
From the dramatic portrait and botanical skull artwork to the butterfly murals running through the stairwell, each piece creates a different focal point within the venue. The varied compositions encourage the artwork to be discovered throughout the space rather than concentrating everything into one feature wall.
For Amber Taverns, through Star Pubs & Bars, the completed mural scheme provides a distinctive visual identity for the venue while demonstrating how bespoke spray-painted artwork can be integrated into a commercial hospitality interior.

The completed mural scheme gives Claremont Social Tap House a distinctive visual identity, with artwork woven throughout the venue rather than concentrated in a single feature area.
The combination of bold butterfly imagery, botanical details, skulls, moths and character artwork creates a dark, atmospheric aesthetic that complements the pub’s existing industrial and contemporary interior.
By designing the artwork around the architecture and applying it directly to the walls, the murals become part of the space itself — creating memorable focal points throughout the customer journey and giving the venue an identity that is difficult to replicate with standard wall graphics or printed decoration.
