The medusa, one of the oldest most visited symbols of power and mystique, is used in various fashion houses – the most notorious of which being Versace.
Many have since tried this as an addition to their arsenal to bring a mythical element to their image library.
Urban Gypset – Artist and Muse – having wanted to capture bohemia and the jet set lifestyle through fashion – thought that it was only right that we employed this as our logo. Having lived in fine gothic carved surrounds from having a stone medusa head as our feature bathroom tap, to having a Great Dane called Medusa this icon has a steeped and more personal meaning to us on more than one level.

For me, artistically, the medusa symbolises the strength of the female form and its power. My greatest quest as an artist is to capture nature’s characteristics, and none are more beautiful a creation than the female form.
The snakes / serpents being the original reference to sin metaphorically echo the original marking of the surface that we now call graffiti. The instinct of man to tarnish his mark relayed through nature’s beauty – what could be more fitting?
To break the logo down on a more obvious scale sees the female face with no eyes sporting the mirrored 86 logo – a symbol reflective of the artist and muse through urban art. The keys depicting that of keys from train yards tipping the proverbial hat to the forbearers of the modern culture. The marker pens to highlight its birthplace in the modern culture in its most primitive form. The aerosol mask represents what we do, we spray paint.
